Meet Ashley Scott. 17 years old. A senior at LaVergne High School. Softball player. Smart. Boy crazy. A writer. Passionate. Believer.
Last April of 2010, Ashley injured herself during a softball game and what the doctors thought was to be a sports related injury turned out to be more. She knew something was not right and after further persistence and biopsy, a tumor was found and she was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma Stage 4 Cancer.
Life changed in an instant. It was hard. Hard for her to comprehend and lose many things she loved like softball and her hair.
Chemo treatments began and about 6 sessions through, Ashley was taken into surgery to have the tumor removed. Not only was the tumor removed but also the surrounding tissue, two of her ribs and part of her lung. Surgery was successful. 98% necrosis.
Chemo treatments continued and still continue…thus far completing 12 rounds and only 2 more to go. She has had good days and yet many more harder days. Yet she remains strong in faith, heart and mind.
As she has shared with many, her life is under construction right now and it’s just a detour and she will be back on the same path soon.
And the small things in life….. are the most important.
